Little Miracles

Chapter 8: Prompt 8: Comfort

Chapter Text

Sam sipped hot chocolate and rolled the cold dreidel necklace between her fingers as her family set up for a movie day, their annual rewatch of Prince of Egypt. It was the last day of Hanukkah, and after such a relaxing holiday, Sam felt comfortable and excited for a couple weeks without school.

The song "Through Heaven's Eyes" hit her especially hard this year. There were miracles everywhere: big ones like the miracle of oil, strange ones like the existence of ghosts, and little ones, too. Good food and good friends. Old menorahs and repurposed sweaters, ancient traditions and new ones. Seeds waiting to sprout under the snow, and small lights pushing back darkness.

Tomorrow, she was going to surprise Tucker and Danny with an early copy of Doomed 64 that she'd bought on the down low from a kid whose father was on the development team.

Today, Sam would just rest and bask in family—she even found herself looking forward to their dinner tonight. They had their issues, sometimes, but Hanukkah had brought many reminders of the light and love that were woven into it, too.
