Chapter Text

The boys sat side by side in Deku’s back garden, sunlight spilling across the lawn in pale gold patches. The smell of cut grass and auntie Inko’s strawberry patch clung to everything.

“Bleehh this one is like superr sourr!!”

“What, you gonna pussy out nerd?”

Deku scrunches his face as he keeps chewing the sour candy, he shivers before sticking out his tongue, “Katthan nook!

“Heh your tongue is all blue.” Katsuki picks up the phone, which has been recording their sour candy challenge for the past ten minutes, and zooms in on Deku’s face, “My darling ate papa smurf.” He snickers.

Deku throws his head back as he laughs, “Kacchan that was so stupid!”

He places the camera back on the ground with a shrug, “Yeah, but ya liked it.”

Deku’s laughter dies down as he rolls his eyes; a grin still pulling at his lips, “Whatever Kacchan, spin the wheel!”

“Mkay, you better watch closely, I ain’t no damn cheater!”

“Says the guy who’s only gotten good jelly beans each round.” Deku pouts.

Katsuki leans forward to give him a quick kiss, then laughs as Deku jumps flusteredly, “Watch and learn baby.”

He spins the wheel and once again lands on a good flavour, “Light work no reaction!”

Deku crosses his arm, “You don’t know if it’s actually peach or not!”

Kacchan pops the jelly bean in his mouth and chews it with a satisfied smirk, “Peach.”

Deku throws his hands up, “Kacchan I'm going to hurtyouIsweartoAllmight!

“Hah? What's that? Speak up ya sore loser!”

Deku spins the wheel next, “Great this might be marshmallow or a stinky sock — take a wild guess.” He pops it into his mouth.

“How’s it taste?”

Deku’s eyes become glassy and he slouches forward.

“Hey you alright?”

Deku starts to sniff as he digs his palms into his eyes. Katsuki panicked scoots closer and brings him into a hug, rubbing his hand up and down his boyfriend's back.

“We can stop playing if you want, the games no fun if you aren’t enjoying it.” After a pause he whispers. “Wanna know something?”

Deku nods his head, “I’ve actually gotten a few bad ones and but I’ve been pretending, b-but don’t let it get to your head or anything!”

Deku sits up and pulls Katsuki into a kiss, his boyfriend hums into it but jolts in surprise when Deku prods his tongue at his lips. They’ve never gone this far before — he wasn’t expecting this and he doesn’t know what to do so he does nothing, he lets Deku take the reins.

He opens his mouth and lets Deku slip his tongue inside, he closes his eyes succumbing to the motions but quickly reopens them when he feels a — a jelly bean enter his mouth!

Izuku pulls away with a smirk and clamps his hands over Katsuki’s mouth, “Chew and swallow Kacchan, how does a stinky sock taste you cheater!

He wants to yell, scream and protest but he can’t until he chews and swallows the damn jelly bean. He recoils, face scrunching in disgust, he almost gags, but finally he chokes it down.

Deku, who was watching his Adam's apple, let him go, a giggle floating out his lips, “Loser has to eat a sour candy, take this!” He grabs one of the extremely sour ones and places it in Katsuki's lap then picks up the phone.

“That’s why you shouldn’t cheat guys, Karma’s a b-bitch!” Is his last phrase before Katsuki tackles him to the ground, “DEKU!!”

Pinned to the ground, Katsuki snarls above him, Deku smirks confidently placing the phone down, “Who’s the sore loser now huh?”

Before Katsuki can respond Izuku cuts him off, “Go on a date with me Kacchan!”

Katsuki buffers, becoming still above him.

They both blush in unison, “Please?”

After a moment, Katsuki smirks then collapses on top of Deku, his full body weight crushing his boyfriend.

“K-Kacchan get off, you’re too heavy!”

Katsuki stays how he is but he raises his head to continue the eye contact, “You calling me fat?”

“What — no!?”

Katsuki kisses him, “Shut up!” He kisses him again, “I’ll go on a shitty date with you.”

Izuku smiles up at him before pouting, “It won’t be shitty, it’s gonna be great I promise!”

“Oh yeah?”

“Yeah!”

Deku starts patting Katsuki’s head and he leans into it. “Where did you learn to kiss like that?”

With a confused look Izuku asked, “Like what?”

“With your tongue idiot.”

“That was a kiss? I mean it started off as one but I didn’t consider the tongue part like — I don't know, part of it? I just wanted to force u to eat the jelly bean mama to baby bird style…”

“You’re sooo embarrassing.”

“You said I shouldn’t stop being embarrassing.”

Katsuki squints, “I take it back.”

“No take backs!” This time Izuku leans up to give him a kiss and they smile into it.

By the time they reached the amusement park gates, Izuku was already vibrating with nervous excitement. He had color-coded the map, printed it twice, laminated one copy, and had a schedule folded neatly in his backpack complete with estimated wait times, snack breaks, and three separate notes reminding himself to drink water.

Kacchan noticed immediately.

“Did you seriously laminate a date?” He asked flatly.

Izuku froze. “I— well only one part of it! The rest is just folded!”

Katsuki grinned like he’d just won something. “God, I love you.”

They made it about five steps inside before Kacchan dramatically spread his arms.

“Alright. Romance rules,” he declared. “Rule one, if there’s a ride that looks stupid, we go on it.”

Izuku blinked. “Isn’t that… counterproductive?”

“No.”

Their first ride was a small coaster Izuku had labeled ‘Warm up ride - Low sickness risk’ Katsuki read the sign and snorted.

“This thing looks like it was built for toddlers.”

Five minutes later, Kacchan screamed louder than anyone else on the ride.

“You said it was for toddlers!” Izuku laughed so hard he nearly forgot to hold on.

“SHUT UP! IT’S THE SUDDEN DROPS!” He yelled, hair whipping around his face.

Afterward, Kacchan refused to admit anything had happened and immediately challenged Izuku to the spinning teacups.

“I’ll go easy,” Katsuki promised.

He did not go easy.

Izuku clutched the wheel in front of him, laughing and begging him to slow down, while Katsuki cackled like a villain.

“This has to be romantic!” Katsuki declared. “I saw it in a manga!”

“I’m going to be sick because of manga!” Izuku wheezed.

After a dizzying few minutes, they staggered off the ride. Katsuki dramatically wiped his forehead and sniffed. “Worth it.”

On the ferris wheel, Katsuki cleared his throat as they reached the top.

“This is where the confession scene would happen,” he said, gesturing vaguely at the view.

Izuku blinked. “Didn’t we confess already?”

“That was the beta version.” Katsuki snapped. “This is the director’s cut.”

He launched into a speech about destiny, fireworks, and dramatic hand holding, only to completely lose his place halfway through.

“…Whatever! You’re annoying and smart and I like you a lot!” He finished, face red.

Izuku grinned. “I think you’re amazing Kacchan.”

For a moment Katsuki’s eyes widened; he grunted — his cute little blush contrasting his embarrassed scowl, he interlinked their fingers and looked away.

Only to turn back around and bite him…

Somewhere between the teacups and the ferris wheel, Izuku noticed a huge banner across the path:

HEROES THROUGH THE AGES! Interactive Displays! Costumes! Photo Booth!

He froze.

“Kacchan… Hero exhibit,” he whispered, eyes wide.

Katsuki turned and immediately understood. Without hesitation, he grabbed Izuku’s wrist.

“We’re going,” he said.

Inside, the exhibit was dimmer and quieter. Izuku relaxed instantly, bright-eyed as he darted from display to display.

“Oh! Kacchan, this panel explains best jeanists early rescue techniques, and wait - - this costume design is based on real support gear, and—”

Katsuki pretended to read a placard. “…Huh. That’s… kinda cool.”

Izuku gasped. “You’re interested!”

“I said kinda.” Katsuki snapped. “Don’t get used to it, nerd.”

They wandered the exhibit, Katsuki asking questions he pretended were ‘checking for inaccuracies’ Izuku info-dumping happily, until they reached the photo booth.

“Kacchan. Photo.”

“No.” Katsuki groaned.

“They have hero props.”

“…No.”

“And dramatic capes.”

Katsuki sighed, already moving forward. “You’ll be the death of me I swear.”

Five minutes later, Katsuki was in a stiff fake gauntlet and a flaring cape, scowling at the camera while Izuku stood beside him in a hero mask too big for his face. The flash went off.

Katsuki snatched the photo immediately. “We’re keeping this.”

Izuku laughed. “You said you didn’t want—”

“I said we.” Katsuki growled, shoving it into his bag.

Stepping back into the park, the sudden noise made Izuku tense again. Katsuki noticed.

“Fast pass.” he said, guiding them to the desk.

Izuku hesitated. “Are you sure? I know sometimes you don’t like—”

I like you not feeling like crap,” Katsuki cut in. The staff handed them the passes quickly. Izuku’s shoulders dropped.

“…Thank you,” he murmured.

“Lines suck,” Katsuki smirked. “Now we’ve got romance and efficiency.”

They used the fast pass for a couple more rides. Katsuki bragged loudly, Izuku gently reminded him not to yell, and both of them laughed more than seemed physically possible.

After that, they stopped at a crepe stand.

“Oh! Kacchan, this one!” Izuku said, holding up his notes. “They use a thinner batter, which means—”

“Two crepes,” Katsuki interrupted. “Strawberry cheesecake and mint chocolate chip. Extra whipped cream.”

Izuku blinked. “You didn’t even let me finish!”

“I know you like the back of my hand I already knew what you were gonna say.” Katsuki exclaimed smugly.

Izuku pretended to be annoyed crossing his arms. “Oh really?”

“Duh.”

Izuku takes their crepes from the server and they start walking away.

“Well what am I gonna say now?”

Katsuki took the crepes from him to show chivalry. “You’re gonna say…” He raises his voice to a high and whiny pitch. “Oh Kacchan~ you’re the best boyfriend in the whole world, thank you for buying me these delicious crepes!”

Izuku whacked him on the back of his head with a scoff. “I do not sound like that! AND I wasn’t gonna say that either.”

Katsuki hissed. “You hit me like my goddamn mother.”

They sat on a bench, eating slowly… well, Izuku did. Katsuki stole half of his mint chocolate chip slice.

“Boyfriend tax,” he announced.

Izuku laughed, “You already ate yours!”

“Yeah, now I’m emotionally invested in yours,” Katsuki said, grinning.

“I love you Kacchan.”

Katsuki bumped their shoulders,“I know, I'm the best.”

“That’s what I was going to say earlier.”

“Tch.” Katsuki ruffles Izuku’s hair aggressively. “Love you too babe.”

After some more walking and photo taking they found a quiet bench tucked away from the crowd.

Izuku focused on his breathing, grounding himself after the stimulation of the park. Katsuki sat close, knees brushing, just there his presence comforting and warm.

Izuku rubbed his temples with a defeated groan. “I’m sorry about this Kacchan — I’ll - just give me a moment.”

Katsuki hummed.

Izuku’s mind whilst starving off a migraine chattered on rapidly. I’m totally ruining the date, ugh why can’t I just be normal? I thought… I thought I could handle it. Izuku huffed, This is alot.

“You’re not too much by the way.” Katsuki said softly.

Izuku looked up. “What?”

“You never are.” Katsuki added, scowling like he dared the universe to argue.

Izuku smiled, eyes a little shiny. “You’re really bad at romance lines.”

Katsuki grumbled, “Shut up.” then leaned just a bit closer.

“Thanks Kacchan.” He continues massaging his temples. “For everything.”

As the sun dipped low and the park lights flickered on, they walked toward the exit together. Izuku tucked the photo booth picture safely into his bag.

“This was… the best date ever, even the parts I didn’t plan.”

Katsuki bumped his shoulder. “Good. Means it was real.”

Side by side, hand in hand, laughter soft now, they left the park full of memories, inside jokes, and proof that they fit together better than either of them expected.

As they reached the gate, Katsuki squeezed Izuku’s hand lightly, smirking. “Glad you’re mine, loser.”

Izuku smiled, leaning into the squeeze. “Uno reverse!”

Katsuki broke apart their hands and slung his arm over Izuku’s shoulder. “Arghh so cringeee!”

In a last minute resort of self preservation Izuku Midoriya had told the biggest lie he had yet.

That he was in love with Katsuki Bakugo.

Katsuki took it better than expected.. That ‘better’ might’ve been worse for Izuku during the moment.

But now having tamed the romance filled beast, Izuku’s life had become ten times better than it was before.

He had more people in his life, the twins, his mother, auntie Mitski and uncle Maseru, his cat — and best of all he had his loving boyfriend Kacchan.

He doesn’t know what’s waiting in store for him, but he can rest assured that he’s in good hands.
