Chapter Text
The class freezes.
What? Izuku? missing? Again? This can’t be right, It was his birthday, why would he leave now?
“What. He’s missing?”
Someone screams out from somewhere in the clump of 18 students that were once anxiously waiting for the birthday boy and were now in shock. Bakugou stares at the class and then explains how he found- no- didn’t find Izuku.
“I knocked on his door and there was no response so I unlocked it and went inside. The room was a mess and the window was open, fuck he even fucking left his phone here so we have no way to contact him.”
The room was thrown into a panic, some ran outside or to Izuku's room to look for him, a few called the teachers, and others full-on sob at the news that Izuku went missing.
Aizawa was the first teacher to arrive, his hair disheveled and in an odd pair of pink cat pajama pants and immediately set to work on damage control, calming down students as needed and getting everyone back inside the dorms and out of the missing boys' room. Next to burst into the building was Yagi- also freaking out is banished to the corner by Aizawa. Not long after Yagi’s banishing Nedzu and a handful of police arrive at the 3-A dorm building and start taking the students' testimonies…
“Why may have-”
“Anything you know that-”
“We already have people out looking-”
Finally, Naomasa gets to one ‘Bakugou Katsuki’ and gets some real answers.
“Deku probably fucked off because the class was acting weird, and well- he didn't have a great school experience before UA, so he most likely thought they were trying to turn on him. ”
Naosuma blinked rapidly before looking the blonde in the eyes.
“Wow, ok- uh- you really just got right to that, didn't you? ”
Bakugou threw Naosuma a bitter look before setting his features and continuing on with his statement.
“I’ve known the nerd almost all of our lives so yeah it makes sense as to why I’d know what I'm talking about, hell, even when we weren't close I was still the closest thing Deku had to a friend. Plus, I know I'm the best you'll get to real information as to where he might have gone.”
“Ah- well, if you are so sure please do tell me anything to help get him back home will do.”
“Fine, just don’t talk while I do.”
“Understood, Mr. Bakugou.”
Nightfall has come once again as the last of the students, teachers, and officers make their way back to their residences Izuku finds his hideaway space for the time being. He starts to settle in when he hears a stick crack a few paces behind him and jumps before the figure speaks.
“Deku, you do know how worried the class is right?”
Izuku jerks his head towards the person and begins to speak.
“Kacchan?! What are you doing here? How did you find me? What do you mean-”
Bakugou cuts him off with a hand ruffling his bright green curls.
“You’re smart but you tend to follow patterns so I came back to one of your favorite places as a kid, and boom you’re here.”
Izuku looks up at the blonde with wide eyes and smiles at him.
“Kacchan why did you come to find me? Why do you want me to come back?”
Bakugou let his hand drop back down to his side with a large sigh.
“Even though you can be such a nuisance I do still care about you… Plus I think your mom would skin me alive if I let you go missing again. So- on that note get the shit you took from your room so we can get your ass back to the dorms.”
Still wearing a weary look Izuku spoke.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea? The last time I was there the class was pushing me away. What if I don’t want to go back?”
Bakugou grabbed Izuku’s go-bag and chucked it up onto his shoulder.
“I won’t make you go back to the dorms tonight but we at least need to get you over to aunties… Also, they did that ‘cause they didn’t want anybody to spoil your party for you.”
Izuku sent the blonde a blank look before bursting into tears,
“They were setting a surprise party up for me? I thought- I- I thought they were trying to make me leave again so they wouldn’t have to deal with me anymore.”
A hand grabbed Izuku’s and started pulling him out of the clearing and towards the nearest road.
“Izuku, they could never hate you even if they tried. For being as smart as you are you have no social skills.”
“Wow, who would have guessed that the formerly quirkless kid would have no social skills? ”
They made their way along to the sidewalk and began their trip back to UA, Bakugou’s hand still clutching tightly onto Izuku’s.
“Oh shut your mouth asshat the faster we get back the faster I get to go to sleep.”
A giggle left the shorter of the two before he let himself say,
“Aww~ poor Kacchan couldn’t get to fall asleep at 8 again?”
Before bursting out laughing, the taller of the two just lets a sigh leave his lips even though his face was holding a smile on itself.
The morning came too slowly for most of the class, the fear Izuku was hurt was weighing far too heavily on their minds. Presents and decorations still lay about the common rooms all too scared to be the one to take them down. For two though it seemed to come a little too soon.
“Deku, did you half to snore in my ear all night?”
Izuku giggled before rolling out of his All-Might-themed bed and stretching his arms up.
“You were the one that wouldn’t let me go so that honestly sounds like a you problem.”
A fondness sneaking its way into his annoyed tone.
“I hate you.”
A smile rested on his lips as his childhood friend responded.
“I know.”
The common rooms were filled with the quiet mutter of classmates too scared to speak up after the long night they all seemed to have had, well that was until the voice of the person they were all worried about bounced its way down the stairwell.
“This is gonna be horrible.”
“Well, that’s what you get for trying to fuck off in the middle of the night again.”
The pair walk into the commons and Izuku is almost immediately brought to the floor by the bear hugs thrown at him by everyone but one inside of the commons.
“Happy birthday shit nerd.”
